State-owned National Power Corp. granted a 24-hour power service to the municipality of Araceli in Palawan that is expected to boost the local economy and tourism.

Napocor president Ma. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita said in a statement the corporation  delivered a 160-kilowatt generating set to its Araceli Diesel Power Plant to pave the way for the extension of service hours.

The Araceli diesel power plant used to have 12 hours of power supply until Napocor extended it to 16 hours in November 2015.

It serves some 700 households and commercial establishments in barangays Poblacion and Tinintinan.

Although the island municipality has 13 barangays, only the two have distribution lines through the Palawan Electric Cooperative.

“Araceli is one of the 11 indigent island municipalities of Palawan and with a 24-hour power supply, we at Napocor wish to contribute in driving up its local economy through more businesses, tourists and jobs,” said Sta. Rita.
