Power retailer Manila Electric Co. on Thursday described as a “fair” move the Energy Regulatory Commission’s resolution on the mandatory implementation of the competitive selection process.

“We will follow the guidelines of the ERC,” Meralco chairman Manuel Pangilinan said.

ERC earlier said it would commence the mandatory implementation of the controversial CSP for the procurement of power supply by distribution utilities. The ERC, however, did not endorse the delegation of a third party to conduct a CSP.

“It’s a fair step to take,” Pangilinan said, when asked about his reaction on the removal of the third-party provision.

ERC issued Resolution No. 13 series of 2015 last month, directing all distribution utilities to conduct mandatory CSP in the procurement of their supply to the captive market.
