AT LEAST THREE FIRMS HAVE SUBMITTED THEIR PROPOSAL FOR THEIR INTEREST TO INSTALL A WASTE-TO-ENERGY FACILITY AT THE CALAHUNAN ENGINEERED SANITARY LANDFILL IN MANDURRIAO DISTRICT, ILOILO CITY.

The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center personnel will review the proposals and discuss concerns on August 14 and conduct site inspection.

An orientation workshop will be held on August 22-23 with the PPP Selection Committee and Technical Working Group.

Iloilo Mayor Jerry Treñas asked for the help of PPP Center due to its expertise on the establishment of a waste-to-energy facility as a means to address street waste, similar to initiatives in cities in Metro Manila

“I was told that they are helping Quezon City and Manila. The PPP Center will come here to capacitate us on this development,” Treñas was quoted in a Sunstar report.

“I am also in talks with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on new technologies that will address waste management concerns. We are going to study if the smokey mountain can be mined to be used as fuel in waste-to-energy process,” he added.

The plan also includes a measure that would address the trash that piled up in drainages and waterways, which causes flooding especially on rainy seasons.

The said project is said to become a concrete solution to garbage disposal problems in the metropolis.
