Aboitiz Power Corp. expects to fully complete the 68.8-megawatt Manolo Fortich and the 19-MW La Trinidad hydro-electric plant to avail of the extended feed-in tariff for hydro until 2019.

Aboitiz Power said in a filing with the Philippine Stock Exchange Hedcor Bukidnon Inc. was building the Manolo Fortich hydro project in Bukidnon province.

The commercial operations of the first plant with a capacity of 43.4 MW began in July while the second plant with an output of 25.4 MW capacity was expected to reach commercial operations in September “once the fining tunnel lining works are completed.”

The 19-MW La Trinidad hydro power plant, meanwhile, is being built by Hedcor Inc. with completion date set by the second half of 2019.

Both plants were expected to operate with feed-in tariff, Aboitiz Power said.

The Department of Energy has endorsed the extension of the installation target for biomass and hydro until 2019 to the Energy Regulatory Commission.

The installation target for the two renewable energy technologies expired in December. The extension is seen to further promote renewable energy development in the country.

The ERC in 2012 approved a feed-in tariff rate of P5.90 per kilowatt-hour for run-of-river hydro within the installation target of 250 MW.
ERC reduced the run-of-river hydro feed-in tariff to P5.8705 per kWh for projects completed in 2017 after reviewing and implementing the 0.5-percent digression rate.
The regulator has not come out with a new feed-in  tariff rate for the extension.
Aboitiz Power said it built the foundation to sustain growth over the long-term. The company expects to expand its generation portfolio to 4,000 MW in 2020 from 2,999 MW as of end December 2017.
“Aboitiz Power believes that a mix of power generation technologies is necessary to address the country’s needs. The company will continue to pursue both renewable and thermal technology projects, where and when it makes sense,” it said.
