THE Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) strongly urged small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to enroll in the utility firm’s Meralco Biz Partners program to help them manage their electricity consumption and avail themselves of special rates that could result in up to 37 percent of savings in electricity costs.
Meralco Assistant Vice President and Head of Meralco Biz Partners Ma. Cecilia Domingo said the program offers SMEs with a monthly consumption of 5 kilowatts to 499 kw to join the program to make their business operations more efficient and profitable.
By enrolling in Meralco’s Peak/Off-peak Program and shifting operating hours to off-peak hours from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., companies could save up to 37 percent. Domingo said this holds true when a customer shifts 100 percent of operating time to off-peak hours.
SMEs will also learn more about using innovative technology from the program. One example cited was the use of Beer Below Zero freezers for restaurants meant to increase sales by as much as 30 percent, while spending only P33 per day on electricity.
Meralco said using induction-heat cookers will also result to savings as it costs P18.42 per hour to operate compared to P47.05 per hour using liquefied petroleum gas. Domingo said there are around 80,000 customers within Meralco’s franchise area that can avail themselves of Meralco’s energy-management offerings.
“Out of the 80,000 customers, around 10 percent to 20 percent can benefit,” she said during the program launch held on Wednesday afternoon.
Meralco is the country’s biggest power distributor with over 5 million customers in its franchise area.
SMEs, meanwhile, account for more than 90 percent of Philippine businesses.
